aayushi techIn this article, you will learn the basics of writing a career goals essay. You will understand the ideology that goes behind writing such an essay and the things you should keep in mind before commencing your work.

The first and foremost thing is to think about your audience. You simply cannot submit the same essay which you submitted to your university while applying for a scholarship. You have to customize your content in order to meet the expectations of your employer.  While the main idea behind the essay might be the same, you must keep in mind the requirements of the organisation you are submitting the essay, and accordingly bring out changes in your style of writing and the points you include in the essay.

The next step is to list out the words and phrases that come to your mind when you think about your career and what you see yourself doing in the coming 5 years, 10 years or even 20 years. Write down not just short-term goals but long-term goals as well. After you have a set of points, start connecting these together by creating a mind map. Link them up and start forming a structure to your essay. Planning things out in this way will help you connect all major ideas effectively and you will easily be able to write an essay that conveys your thoughts to the employer in the way you want them to be conveyed.

Next, ask yourself as to why you want to pursue these goals that you have listed and what is it that motivates you to do the same. You must find the burning desire that will force you to run after these goals. Your reason might be something insignificant or it might have had a huge impact on your life, whatever it is, list it down and include it in your essay so that your employer is aware of why you're applying to their organisation.

After this, think about your career history. What are the things you have done till now which will help you achieve these goals in the future? Associate these things with your goals in a clear and understandable way. If you feel that you have not yet done something that you might need to pursue these goals, you can write about the activity that you plan on doing for you to be able to come one step closer to your target.

After you have been through the above points, start with writing an impactful introduction. Something that will compel the reader to read with attention and not just skim through what you have written. Use your mind map and the structure that you created and write the essay. Lastly, end your essay by telling the employer how you will be a good fit for their organisation and will be able to help them attain their objectives simultaneously.
