2nd International Conference - “Role of Translation in Nation Building, Nationalism and Supranationalism” held at New Delhi, December 16-19, 2010 jointly organized by Modlingua Learning Pvt. Ltd., Indian Translators Association and Linguaindia, Indian language division of Modlingua.
Until the eighties, scholars and translators were more focused on the translation of literature and administrative texts which were mainly aimed at national and regional consumers. Ever since the communication explosion of the nineties, the demand for translation and language related services has increased exponentially. Translation is not only needed for the creation of national identity but has also become an essential tool for keeping pace with the globalization and localization processes.
The 2nd International conference on “ROLE OF TRANSLATION IN NATION BUILDING, NATIONALISM AND SUPRA-NATIONALISM” organized by the Indian Translators Association successfully concluded on December 19, 2010, creating a new milestone for the language and translators community of India. The international conference held on December 16-19, 2010, at New Delhi was hosted by Instituto Cervantes, (Cultural wing of Embassy of Spain in India).
The mentioned international conference received institutional support from Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore; International Federation of Translators (FIT), Switzerland and Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India followed by presence of representatives of more than 60 leading national and international universities. The event spread into four days witnessed presence of more than 300 delegates that included 130 expert- speakers of world repute representing 25 countries. Participants from leading national and international universities shared their views on different aspects of translation activities that help in national building, nationalism and supra- nationalism.
