Content writers, translators, and online marketers may look like three separate professions, but they increasingly work hand in hand. This article looks at what each one does and how they connect.
What is a content writer?
Content writers are proficient writers who produce engaging written content, fundamentally for online use. Most are web-savvy people who enjoy creating articles, blog posts, and other types of written web material, and they are often expected to have a basic knowledge of WordPress and SEO. The content they create can include sales copy, ebooks, podcasts, and written content for graphics. Content writers use web formatting tools such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with content management systems, to help produce their work. They write for many kinds of sites, including blogs, social networks, e-commerce sites, news aggregators, and school websites. Besides writing content, these writers may also be responsible for making sure a site's pages and content connect properly.
What is translation?
Translation is the conversion of words or text from one language to another. The process involves interpreting the meaning of the text and producing the same meaning in another language. All languages exist in a particular social and cultural context. A translator always risks accidentally introducing source-language words, grammar, or syntax into the target-language rendering. On the other hand, such "overflows" have at times imported valuable source-language calques and loanwords that have enriched target languages. Translators, including the early translators of sacred texts, have helped shape the very languages into which they translated.
What is online marketing?
Online marketing, also known as internet marketing, is the process of promoting a business or brand and its products or services over the internet, using tools that help drive traffic, leads, and sales. Internet marketing is a broad term that covers a range of tactics and strategies - including content, email, search, paid media, and more. These days, internet marketing is often used interchangeably with "content marketing", because content marketing is the internet marketing of the present and future: it serves up content that addresses our pain points and is there when we want it.
How they work together
A content writer with multiple language skills helps online marketing grow. The writer translates their work into different languages and allows more people to read it. Online marketing plays a key role in the professional development of language professionals, allowing them to promote their services and generate leads. If you want to build your reputation in the translation and language industry, you should learn how to do personal branding online. In order to launch a successful career, you should learn how the internet works and how to increase your online presence. Online marketing is an extremely effective tool for newcomers, as it helps them with their professional development - and for more experienced linguists, who use it to gain more contacts and diversify their business.
Content writing, translation, and online marketing go hand in hand. When marketing increases all over the world, it directly leads to globalisation. A polyglot content writer carries a lot of responsibility. Take Amazon as an example: it is a worldwide online brand succeeding in countries like India, France, and Britain. A person who knows Hindi, English, and French is able to write content in three languages and satisfy customers in all of these countries - and that increases the growth prospects of the company.
A personal note
As a French linguist, in my later career I plan to use my translation competencies and skills to work as a content writer in a multinational corporation, strengthening marketing strategies to reach more customers globally.
