What are quality standards?
A product is of quality if it does not contain any manufacturing defect deficiency or significant variation. To get the uniformity in the whole set of products being produced, certain specific standards need to be set. The defined standard should be such that the details offered by the given product should match the requirements of the demanded product. Quality standards are the expected standards to be followed.
In translation, the work is of quality if the information and the intent are accurately understood and conveyed in the required manner. The quality of translation becomes really essential in domains such as IP, medical, legal, accounting, and technical documentation, where low-quality translations could cause loss of business value.
ISO 9001 is the world’s most widely recognized quality management standard. It outlines ways to achieve consistent performance and service at all levels. Its certification means a quality system that provides the framework for better customer satisfaction, staff motivation, and continuous improvement.
Why are quality standards important?
Quality standards are intended to ensure clients meet the expected requirements and consistency of the products is maintained. These standards include some parameters which the goods/service provider needs to keep in mind. Quality is about safety, delivering on a promise, reliability and meeting the very basics of customer expectations.
Quality can be an uncertain concept at first because what maybe quality for one, might not be quality for another. It varies from person to person. Therefore, the need for and purpose of quality standards are vital. Quality standards, such as ISO 9001, serve as a structure for businesses. Clearly defined standards make it easier for companies to meet what “quality” is considered by their consumers and subsequently, the overall vision of the company’s work is also improved.
(Quality standards are only meant to serve as a framework. They are not legally binding the service or the goods provider).
What is the importance of feedback mechanism in the quality control process?
As human beings, the validation of others is one of the major things that we crave. Be it in the way we dress, the way we think, the ideologies we follow etc. we are always looking for validation and approval. This a part of the feedback mechanism. We take feedback of others and then we try to improve. In a similar fashion, feedback for the final product is necessary to maintain the quality of the product. If the product is not reviewed and feedback is not provided, there is no scope for improvement (if needed). Feedback mechanism provides measures to control the quality. Feedback can be both positive and negative. While good feedback can lead to the approval of the product, bad feedback leads to improvement in the quality of the product. Hence, the feedback mechanism plays a very important role in the quality control process.
