Written in June 2018 during the author's Modlingua internship, in response to the assignment: "Explain the importance of time management in content writing from the content writer's perspective, the editor's perspective and the management's perspective. How will you use the Modlingua Rubric to improve efficiency at a workplace?"
Time management is an important skill even in our daily lives. For professional workers, it is even more crucial to have good time management skills.
The Content Writer's Perspective
The main reason time management is important for a content writer is deadlines. Content writers mostly write articles on a schedule they are given or have set for themselves. Moreover, time management gives a sense of empowerment to writers when they are able to finish their work within a given time period. It also makes it easier for writers to distribute their work and give time to many aspects of their writing. Managing time well allows writers to be more precise in their work, fact-check everything properly and add more ideas to it - and it can also leave the writer more time for other work.
The Editor's Perspective
Time management helps editors keep to their deadlines as well. Editors have to edit many articles, and having good time management skills reduces stress and increases productivity. It also allows editors to focus on the tasks that matter most, such as editing a document for a major company. An editor who has many documents to edit can finish within the set time, and more goals get met. Such skills let editors feel more comfortable and confident about taking on more documents, and they leave more time to improve their own editing skills.
The Management Perspective
For managers, it is important to manage time well because any delay in their schedule can affect the cost and the output of a project. Poor time management can increase stress and frustration and lead to burnout. Good time management skills make a manager more effective: able to take on more projects, manage employees well and keep the workload balanced. Since managers are considered the leaders of a workplace, their own time management sets the tone - employees follow it.
Using the Modlingua Rubric to Improve Workplace Efficiency
The Modlingua Rubric covers many aspects of content writing. It gives the author and the editor a very clear understanding of where they could have gone wrong and how to improve. Used well, the rubric improves efficiency in the workplace, because employees can correct their mistakes and improve without delaying anyone else's work. They work faster and productivity rises. The rubric also allows one to comprehend one's own work and a co-worker's work, which makes it easier to grasp the effort others have put in and to help improve it. This develops a sense of comfort in the workplace. And because everyone follows the same single rubric, the risk of disagreements is reduced and efficiency increases further.
