Meeting a Social Entrepreneur

Namaskar. Today I met a very interesting person, Bindeshwar Pathak, the Founder and Chairman of Sulabh International. Sulabh International is unique in the sense that it focuses on the development of toilets for people, and his concept of developing toilets covers not only cities but also the remote areas of villages. This has made him an important face not only in India but also at the global level. He talks about the mantra of success for entrepreneurs.

He has been a long-time social entrepreneur with international fame, so his thoughts are very important. The most important point of his mantra of success is following ethics, morals and values - and using these ethics, values and morals in regular work brings consistency to the development of a better society.

Ravi Kumar: आज भारत में एंटरप्रेन्योरशिप नेटवर्क डेवलप हो रहा है जिसमें आपने अपनी उपस्थिति दिखाई और बहुत ही गर्मजोशी के साथ समय से पहले आ गए हैं। नए बच्चे लोग, जिनको आपने देखा, आईआईटी से हैं, एमबीए इंस्टिट्यूट से हैं, कुछ गांव से भी हैं, कुछ महिलाएं भी हैं, जिनका लक्ष्य है कि भारत में एंटरप्रेन्योरशिप को लार्ज स्केल में प्रमोट किया जाए - खास करके उस एरिया से जहां पर डेवलपमेंट की कमी होती आ रही है या अवसरों की कमी होती रही है। तो इसके बारे में बच्चों को क्या मैसेज देना चाहेंगे?

Bindeshwar Pathak: पहला यह है कि भारत के बच्चों को हम यह बताएंगे कि आपके यहां सारी संपन्न चीजें हैं, एक चीज की कमी है - अधिकांश भारतीय, मैं सब की बात नहीं कर रहा हूं, अधिकांश भारतीय समय पर नहीं चलते। यदि कोई मुझे कहे कि आप बच्चों को क्या सीख देंगे, तो मैं बच्चों को यही शिक्षा दूंगा कि आप समय पर चलें, क्योंकि पश्चिम वाले लोग समय पर चलकर ही अपने देश का विकास कर रहे हैं, और हम समय पर नहीं चलते इसलिए पीछे रह जाते हैं। अब हमको आगे आना है दुनिया के सामने, तो पहली सीख तो यहीं रहने वाली है।

दूसरी सीख है फंडामेंटल्स को ध्यान में रखना। मेरी मां कहती है कि भूखे रहना, बेईमानी मत करना; यदि दो रोटी मिल जाए तो एक बांट करके खाना। मां की शिक्षा बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात होती है। तो यह दोनों फंडामेंटल्स हैं - बेईमानी मत करना। मैंने बड़े-बड़े अरबपति को जेल जाते हुए देखा है; जब अरबपति लोग चोरी करते हैं तब समझ नहीं आता कि किस बात के लिए चोरी कर रहे हैं। तो आज के बच्चों के लिए हम कहेंगे कि आप ईमानदारी से धन कमाएं, ईमानदारी से खर्च करें और समाज की सेवा करें - ऐसे लोग जो पीछे छूट गए हैं, उनकी मदद करें।

हम भी विधवा की मदद कर रहे हैं, हम उन बच्चों की भी मदद कर रहे हैं जिनको पढ़ाई में परेशानी आती है - हम उनको पैसा देते हैं, शादी के लिए देते हैं जिन लड़कियों की शादी में परेशानी आ रही है। कोई बीमार पड़ जाए तो उसके लिए भी हम पैसा देते हैं, कोई एक्सीडेंट हो जाए या किसी को परेशानी हो - यदि मेरे सामने कोई आ जाता है तो पहला काम करते हैं कि उसकी मदद की जाए।
