Self-assessment report by Garvita
I have been studying French for 12 years now. Being a language student, I have come across numerous first-hand experiences of people from different backgrounds be it translators, simultaneous or consecutive interpreters, or other professionals from the language and linguistics’ fields. I have heard them speak about their careers quite often but never did they make it clear that how can one get a head start or what is the secret recipe for their success in their respective fields. There was a lot of ambiguity. Some of them said to continue with studies in order to reach there while others said to take up projects to gain early experience but no one ever introduced the concept of the ever-evolving and dynamic market of translation and interpretation. No one ever taught us to start creating a digital footprint for ourselves so as to increase the demand for our services. I did always wonder that there are many language enthusiasts who are learning different languages on a daily basis, what is that something that can set me apart and give me an edge over others? All my queries and doubts did get clarified when I started my internship at Modlingua. The team at Modlingua not only helped in training us for different fields like project management, content writing, SEO, public speaking and leadership, etc. in which we got the opportunity to be guided by so many skilled mentors, veterans in their respective fields and raise our questions or queries for the same but also we were given the first-hand experience to be live on YouTube and take part in such webinars as facilitators or even as presenters for the same. The best part being we are in direct contact and we are being constantly guided by Mr. Ravi Kumar who is the Founder President of the Indian Translators Association and who is by his efforts actively promoting the translation services in India. It has hardly been a month since I started this internship and I have begun to realize that I get to learn something new and exciting almost every day. We have also been given a platform through which we can express whatever we have learned so far through blogs, we are constantly motivated as a team by our mentors who inspire us by their words and actions. The assignments given to us serve as a medium to make us learn how to translate our ideas into actions as only actions can ensure success in the long run. We were also asked to act independently giving us the thrill and experience that one gets to have in real job setup. Nevertheless, our doubts were always welcomed and clarified as quickly as possible. Our tasks included uploading our profiles so as to work efficiently at the Modlingua page. Also, we are at times shown images and are asked to interpret them just like that of a wolf pack and that of the Ants working together where we give our views by commenting detailing are our thoughts about the same. These images help us understand some important aspects of the business like wolf pack image which represents the organizational setup and how teamwork leads to success. Also, the image of how ants work together shows how networking with like-minded people or professionals can ease our path to success, and at the same time, one should work with perseverance and determination to achieve his/her goals.
Personal evaluation
According to me, I've never been so active on social media platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter except now when I have started to use them often to create a digital footprint owing to which my network has increased manifolds. I have started to interact with people who have been broadening my horizons about the translation and interpretation business. People have started to reach out to me to ask about my experience at Modlingua and have shared their experiences too. No doubt, seeing my work getting appreciated by the mentors is boosting my confidence, and especially having to get knowledge about diverse fields has made me more competent. I personally, am growing a lot in terms of knowledge of different fields like content writing, public speaking, networking, etc. Modlingua is no doubt proving to be my first step towards a brighter future. I have tried to contribute by making posters for webinars, I have been trying to convince people to subscribe to the channel. Every day, we engage by watching videos, preparing for webinars, searching about different topics, putting a post on social media accounts to increase the viewers, and constantly creating a buzz for the events and taking part in many more such engaging activities.
I am looking forward to supplementing my language skills with content writing and CAT tools which will help me in my future endeavors.
I will always be grateful to Mr. Ravi Kumar and Modlingua for such an amazing opportunity that helped me to hone my technical as well as interpersonal skills.
