Brief Profile

I am Margaret Petrarca and I am an Italian native speaker. I have a joint Master’s degree in Linguistics and Translation issued by the University of Pisa (Italy) and the University of Aix-Marseille (France). I love traveling as well as discovering new cultures and languages, that is why I took the chance to study and live abroad as much as I could. I have lived in France for almost four years, and in English speaking countries for almost a year. As I am currently learning Spanish and Arabic, I also spent some time in Spain and in Morocco in order to get used to their languages and ways of living.

Since I graduated almost three years ago, I have already some work experience. I have mostly taught Italian, English, and French languages in public and private schools. I enjoyed working with students, especially with children. What I appreciated the most was the relationship I developed with them as well as to actively participate in their improvement. More recently, I have been working with Italian publishing houses, and I also had the chance to work for some agencies not only as a translator and proofreader but also as a copywriter. I love translating, writing, and reflect on how languages work, that is why I am seeking new opportunities for a better understanding of what lies behind the wonderful world of words.

Career goals

Since a very young age, I knew I wanted to work with words and languages. After graduating with honors in Linguistics and Translation, I have started working as a translator for publishers. Nevertheless, I feel like I still have things to learn. I hope that with Modlingua I will be able to better understand how marketing, social media, and entrepreneurship work. As a freelance translator, I am also an entrepreneur, so it is vitally important to know how to make and retain clients as well as to be able to promote one’s skills. Once I will be able to do so, I would like to start working for agencies and private clients. In fact, I am passionate about web content writing and translating and I hope I will be able to work in this field which is becoming increasingly influential.

On the other side, I have always been attracted by literature and books. It is rewarding for me to work for publishing houses, in order to spread culture and knowledge. I have always been dedicated to promoting peace and acceptance, as well as to fight for people’s rights. For this reason, I also hope I will be able to translate engaged literature and contents for companies in line with my ideologies.
