Brief Profile
Namaskar, I am Sneha Ghosh, from Kolkata, West Bengal, holding a Master of Arts degree in Linguistics from the University of Calcutta. I have completed my B.A. Honors degree in Bengali Language and Literature from the same university. I have just completed a short-term certificate course in Mundari language from the Centre of Endangered Language, Central University of Jharkhand. I have also learned the German language for one year (certificate course) from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. In the first semester of my Masters, I worked on a text to a speech editing project. Now I am working as a Research Intern at the Linguistic Research Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, in the project named: Development of a Digital Dictionary of Spatio-Temporal Expressions used in Bengali. Apart from this, I have been working as a freelance translator for about two years. Since September 2020, I have been working as a “Bengali to English Translator” at Christ Embassy, India. I am also a private tutor of the Bengali language, with History, Geography, etc.
Besides these, I am an Indian Classical Violin Trainee for six years. I have learned Varatnatyam and Rabindra Nritya for four years (Sarva Bharatiya Charu Kala Mandir) and Painting for seven years (Bangiya Sangeet Parishad - Junior Diploma), and Yoga for more than seven years.
Career Goals
I have been told since my high school time that choosing a career is something very important, and it has to be done very carefully. Even though I started my journey with the science stream in high school, I was always fond of the Bengali language and literature. So, I decided to continue my career journey with this language. When I was in class 11, I took a Spanish language course for six months, and that opened the doors of my career vision. I want to learn and work with the tribal languages of India as these need preservation. I am very eager to work as a Sub-title editor and sound editor in the film and media field. As translation in Bengali is my other field of work so, it would be a great opportunity for me to learn the very aspects of translation from Modlingua, under the guidance of Mr. Ravi Kumar Sir in Summer Internship 2021. I also wish to work in the Indian Embassy of any country as a translator in the future.
As a Linguistics student, I want to explore all of its work fields as a Field Researcher or as a learner because I think exploring different fields of work is a vast saving of knowledge that is the most valuable wealth than anything.
Besides all these, I am very passionate about traveling. I also wish to be a travel blogger and work with people who live in remote areas of India. I love social works, and I participated in a Mission Trip to Malda, West Bengal, organized by Indian Campus Crusade for Christ in 2018.
I love reading books, watching films, trekking, and mountain sports. During my school days, I was fond of quiz competitions and writing, so I attended various quizzes and writing competitions. In class 11, I became the Science magazine editor of our school's Science department and was the cultural committee secretary. I am learning Ukulele and Piano online and Orthography of various languages nowadays.
I believe learning is the only thing that has no age limit and makes us happy and teaches us not to be judgemental. So, with a passion for learning, I am here.
