Career Goals
Millennials in India today are very different from our previous generations. We have grown up in a liberalized world and social media, with exposure to the world beyond our own country, knowledge of varied cultures, economies, and technologies, and tremendous opportunities to grow into refined professionals. With this and equality in education and career opportunities for different gender and communities, youth today is growing up with various aspirations than ever before. We want to achieve a number of things in our lives - be it personal or professional. We’re competitive, with spirit to work hard and a desire to tick-off everything in our checklist. Outlining goals makes us more organized and focused in our journey to achieve what all we aspire, for without them our life would just be plain and boring with no excitement at all. We would have nothing to look forward to, or even have anything to achieve. Setting goals help to make our life flow much easier and give us something to look forward to, making us more organized in achieving our targets, and measure our growth.
I have always been told to figure out what I would like to do when I grow up and then make a career out of it. Three years ago with this philosophy in my mind, I decided to find out what I liked to do. Before entering college, I realized that my interests lay in literature. Instead of opting BBA or B.com, I went for a literature course along with a language course in German. During my high school years, my skills in literature were highly praised so it was easy for me to decide to pursue a career in literature and language. It was a challenging part of being a commerce student choosing a career in this field.
Today, as I write this essay as a final year student, I have gained some teaching exposure in my current role in the last 2 years. Teaching experience taught me to be responsible, patient, improve my listening skills and my ability to comprehend a concept for my students to understand. It made me into a leader, taking charge of my students and directing their efforts to achieve their best. I know that there is still a great deal more than I need to learn as I continue my journey as a professional. Being in a teaching role, I feel I have gained the initial set of skills I needed to work for a corporate organization. My long-term career goal is to grow into a business professional, growing my expertise in social media and content marketing. My short-term goals are to be associated with everything happening in German Language field in India. I would want to grow my network of professionals working in business roles related to the German Language. Hence, I am applying for an internship at Modlingua. This internship would help me understand different business roles and techniques of market research, content writing, and branding. Having finished my German language course till B2 from Max Mueller Bhavan, I am skilled to use my language and leadership skills to perform the required responsibilities and learn from this internship opportunity. It would also help me learn the nuances of working for a private company and add value to my overall background. I plan to continue my passion for the German Language by pursuing Advanced Diploma from the University of Delhi this year and I’m currently preparing for its entrance exam. I also plan to pursue my Masters in the German Language in the future.
