| Version 1 – Draft Profile Hi, I am a student of MA in French and Francophone Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University. I did my BA in French from Delhi University. Before moving on to my MA, I had a year-long work experience at a French magazine, based in Delhi. My work included writing and translating articles between English and French, in various domains, from social issues to cultural topics, tourism, education, etc. This experience gave me a tremendously rich initiation to translation and also to the world of journalism, and also affirmed my interest and determination to make translation a professional career for myself. To complement my undergrad studies, I was a student at Alliance Française de Delhi for two years, where I studied till the level C1. Additionally, I hold the DELF B2 certification. Currently, as I pursue my MA at Jawaharlal Nehru University, where the major focus of my studies is translation and interpretation, I am also learning Spanish, independently from various online resources. Keeping up with the entrepreneurial spirit of this generation, I have also been putting my management skills to test by assisting my sister in her start-up. The start-up is meant especially for writers who have never had an opportunity to recite their works, and thus gives them a platform to get an initiation to ‘spoken word’. As part of the team, I participate in decision-making, event planning, and social media promotion strategies. This start-up has also given me a platform to practice my drama skills, which I acquired during two years of theatre classes that I took during my undergrad. During the events, I plan and conduct various activities that aim at building confidence and improving performance skills of the participants. I am also a nature enthusiast and especially enjoy hiking. Also, currently, in my bid to help save our planet, I am trying develop a responsible and sustainable lifestyle, whereby we segregate our dry waste and compost the kitchen waste at home, and also try to find substitutes to our consumption of plastic and packaged products. |

| Version 1 - Draft Career Goals It is since school that I have had a particular affinity for French and English, giving me thus a natural enthusiasm and zeal for learning and working in these two languages. From spending hours working on a single word, to discovering new things, languages have always been a source of immense fun for me. And so my choice of BA and now MA in French came very naturally to me. Practicing and studying Translation & Interpretation introduced me to another brilliant facet of working with languages – it is the constant development of knowledge. I do not find myself restricted to a particular domain; law, medicine, environment, business, literature, arts and culture, education…you name it and a translator is working on a text from that field. I am particularly impressed by the diversity of knowledge that a translation job requires. This is what I define as an ideal career goal for myself, which I believe I will be able to achieve by combining dynamic areas of work, like translation and mass media. Ten years from now, I see myself engaged in a similar combination, preferably with a magazine. My studies in interpretation, simultaneous as well as consecutive, have equally intrigued me, and with adequate training, I also aim to venture in the world of interpretation. To be able to reach these goals, I am always looking for opportunities to grow and Modlingua seems to me one such relevant opportunity. I believe that this internship, owing to its focus on imparting the professional know-how, will help me take a steadfast trampoline jump into the professional world of translation. As for my education, I aim to pursue at least a year more of translation and interpretation studies in a reputed French university after my MA, and if curiosity, interests and my capacities take me further ahead, I would also like to work towards a PhD in the same. |
