The Summer Internship by Modlingua Certified Translation services started on 1st July 2021 and we submitted our last assignment on 18th September 2021. The duration of this internship was almost three months. This company is located in New Delhi, and there were almost 100 interns this year, who were a part of this internship and who are involved in the field of language from all over the world. Language students from different universities students as well as professional translations and also aspiring translators took part in this Summer Internship. Mr Ravi Kumar, Founder and Managing Director of Modlingua, used to conduct regular meetings with all the interns on Zoom and explained to us every topic related to Translation. These meetings were also recorded and later uploaded on the official youtube channel of Modlingua. In this way, the interns who were not able to attend the meeting on that particular date and time could watch the videos later according to their own convenience. It was a great experience for me where I could learn new things related to translation and translation business.

An internship in any field is a job training professional careers. An Internship offer interns an opportunity to work in their desired field.

In this summer Internship 2021, we have learnt about social media marketing, networking and business development. We were taught about how translators can be successful entrepreneurs. Social media is gradually becoming a very important and valuable part of our day at to day lives. Through social media, it is very easy and convenient for everyone to make people aware of their activities and this is what we call social media marketing. Social media platforms and websites are widely used to promote a product or a service. All the interns were given certain tasks to promote the youtube channel of Modlingua and got an idea about how social media marketing works. This internship made us familiar with the work environment and trained us on how to develop communication skills with people who are on a higher rank inside the business, and how to treat, obtain & retain clients.

During the Modlingua Summer Internship 2021, we were given five assignments in total, including this one. Before any assignment which we were given to us, Mr Ravi Kumar used to conduct online meetings, where the topics were discussed thoroughly and also guests were also invited to make the topic understandable for the interns. For our first assignment, we were asked to write an article about Social Media and Leveraging Networks. We wrote about the basics of networking, the perks of social media marketing and also about how social media works in the field of translation This topic really helped me a lot in attaining skills. In the field of translation, a translator must have language skills, computer skills, a good sense of networking and social media. The second assignment was related to Citizen Journalism and how it works. Before assigning us the assignment, Mr Ravi Kumar showed us some video reports which were few examples of citizen Journalism. Later, we started researching this topic in detail so that we are able to complete our assigned assignment on time. We discussed how to be a good citizen Journalist and what points to keep in mind while we deliver any particular news or an incident to the people through social media platforms. The other points which were written in the article were about the responsibilities of citizen journalists. In this assignment, we were also given a second task which was about preparing a video report keeping in mind all the necessary points about citizen journalism. Every intern was given full freedom to choose their own topic for the video reporting task. The third assignment dealt with the relevance of IT and its use in the field of translation. As we researched the topic in detail in the last two assignments, we went forward with the same procedure for the third assignment. I got to learn about many new terms and new tools, which can be used for translation, but also these tech tools or machine translators are not always correct as which they don't understand the culture or tradition of the country to which the target language belongs. We discussed the disadvantages and advantages of computer-aided translation.

The second task for the third assignment was to prepare a video report where we had to demonstrate how IT helps translators and language professionals in the field of translation. Mr Ravi Kumar Sir sent us some videos for giving us a clear picture or idea about what role does IT play for the translators and language professionals in the field of translation. Many interns put in their 100% effort to prepare this video report and Mr Ravi Kumar Sir appreciated all the interns for their good work. He also uploaded a few video reports on the official Youtube channel of Modlingua where everyone appreciated the efforts and hard work done by the intern.

For me, the fourth assignment was most helpful and also informative. I came to know a lot of new things because it was about reading an article and then answer the given question. Mr Ravi Kumar Sir shared six articles with us following with one question related to each article. Questions that were asked in the assignment were:-

1. Concept of domestication and foreignization of the translated text.

2. Where do we see translation in the next 10 years?

3. Is translation an art or a skill?

4. Difference between culture and cultural translation?

5. Audio - medial translation.

6. Word to word translation Vs Sense to sense translation.

Out of these questions, I answered the third one which was, whether a translation is an art on a skill. I researched about this a lot, read some articles and research papers, discussed it with my fellow interns and then wrote my answer in the best way possible and tried to convey my thoughts about the same.

Other than the article which was related to the question I answered, I also read the other five articles to gain some more knowledge about other topics as well. All the articles were very informative and each one of them was about a different topic.

In a true sense, I learned every small thing about translation. Learning every small aspect about translation will surely be really helpful and beneficial for me to be a good translator in future.

The fifth and last assignment is this, where we are asked to prepare a report about our experience and our learnings during the Modlingua Summer Internship 2021. Also, the other task In this last assignment is to prepare a video report of approximately 5-10 minutes on any topic related to language, culture or translation.

This Internship was extremely beneficial to me. With the help of our teacher Mr Ravi Kumar Sir, I enhanced my writing skills as well as my language skills. Also, It had helped me in the management of time. We do not have to travel anywhere, but we could easily attend the online sessions and complete our assignments on time without any problem. If while doing the assignment we faced any issue, we could ask for help from our coordinator Ms Payal Sharma, who was very helpful and understanding. After every session of interaction, the recorded session was uploaded on the official youtube channel of Modlingua. We could also refer to youtube lectures at any point in time. This Summer Internship provided the interns with a platform where they could share & discuss their viewpoints with each other. The interns who volunteered were given a chance to present their presentation in front of Mr Ravi Kumar Sir.

The internship has enhanced the intern's ability to analyse, select and evaluate evidence, construct and refute arguments, critical thinking, effective writing communication, and independent research and teamwork. The topics which we learned, amplified the awareness of various diversified topics relevant to the translation which has resulted in the awareness of current job opportunities among the interns.

The platform and opportunity given to the interns have also enhanced their careers and reputation.

Modlingua Summer Internship is a great initiative taken by Modlingua Certified Translation, where interns are trained without any fees or favour: it is just organized to train the interns, to make them familiar with the field of translation, interpretation and the working environment. This internship didn't train us about how to translate a text from one language to another, rather it trained us in other skills required to this field so that we can act professionally and also the skills which can be useful to us in every sphere. We have learned better writing skills and how to correct our grammatical errors because this can have a good impression on others if we do not do any or very few of the mistakes while sending something to the other person.

Finally, on a personal level, I would say it is a truly complete experience and worth working with Modlingua.

In this internship, we have been graced with many knowledge and valuable lectures by our mentor on Citizen Journalism, Relevance of IT and its uses in translation, Social media and Leveraging network, etc.

The Summer Internship at Modlingua 2021 has enhanced the intern's ability to go beyond limits and improve the perceptibility in their career.
