Anna Darafeja

anna darafejaI am Anna Darafeja, a third-year BA English linguistics and Chinese language student at the University of Central Lancashire, UK. Currently, I am on my two-semester language placement in China, Zhejiang University.

I received secondary education in my home country, Latvia, and during that time also participated in various exchange programs via organizations such as AFS, Meridian Group and others.

I am a multilingual person, speaking Russian and Latvian as my native languages; I have been learning English language since the age of and 4 pursuing it as a part of my bachelor degree in the future; I have participated in cultural exchange program via AFS and spend 10 months in France at the age of 16, and took up Chinese language as the second part of my bachelor degree in the university.

I have always been passionate about learning foreign languages, but apart from that I am also focused on self-development. I am eager to meet new people, discuss various worldwide and personal topics because I am a huge believer that we learn and grow through mutual communication.

Career Goals

Ever since I could remember, my goal always was to get more knowledge, to develop what I have now and strive for more. This basis was given to me by my parents, who have always been motivating and even pushing me to take part in all possible extracurricular activities, training classes, workshops and so on.

As a teenager, I did not realize how much benefits it brings to me, as was merely following my parents' advice. Now, being a third-year University student, I came to realize that I have a lot of knowledge put in me, which I have not used and played to its fullest.

After having finished bachelor’s studies in English linguistics and Modern Languages next summer, I am planning to pursue a master’s degree in Medical Law in order to be able to provide communication and facilitate the service for those whose rights to get high-quality medical help were violated.

I have always been passionate about learning foreign languages and now I want to make the most use of what I have learned so far. I aspire to become a fully trained and professional translator, who is able to provide communication between people who otherwise do not understand each other because of the language barrier.

Having experience in translation in the field of business and research, as well as having experience in teaching, I am aiming to be able to apply my language skills within the field of Medical law, in order to help people to maintain their right to qualitative medical help and help employees to maintain their right to work in a safe and legal environment.
