About the Internship
Modlingua started a Summer Internship Programme of 3 months on 7th of June , 2017 till 25th of August, 2017. This internship started with an Online Orientation Programme as the focus of our Summer Internship Programme was on Entrepreneurship and Professional Development of Translators, Interpreters and language Professionals and also we get familiarize with the following topics in relation to the language business:
- Business Development
- Online Marketing
- Social Media Marketing
- Project Management
- Entrepreneurship
During our early days of Internship, we had weekly meetings via an app called GoToMeeting in which we learnt how to create a profile in Modlingua website and Mr. Kumar explained how we would proceed during our activities and also we promoted our various pages and blogs in different social medias.
For progress of the assignments, it was requisite to watch YouTube videos, sample links given by Mr. Kumar at the YouTube channel also a specific format was given which includes word limit, font name, size with sample links (that were actually very helpful to us) and a deadline as well.
Our first assignment, was to prepare our individual professional profile which includes our background details, educational qualifications, professional goals and most important our areas of interest where we are focusing more on building our strength.
In our second assignment, we were given four options from which we had to choose one topic and were asked to do dissection, reductionism and trend analysis of our topic. The options which were given to us were so amazing like Wolf pack & strategy, ants teach us the importance of networking, multilingualism and last importance of our mother tongue and other languages and the one of my choosing was Multilingualism.
In the third assignment, also we were given four options from which we had to choose one topic. In that I learnt about Globalization, Localization, Internationalization and translation of content. The role of translator in these processes.
In our fourth assignment, we had learned about Personal Branding and Entrepreneurship from Professor Ioanna Daskalopoulou through our YouTube channel. We understand that there is always some fundamental differences between Freelancing and In-house translation. In this assignment I learnt about how to gain clients being a freelancer. She shared her experience as a translator and trainer.
Overall assessment & conclusion
Throughout this Internship it was such a wonderful and learning experience. Mr. Ravi Kumar, keeps on guiding us and shares the articles of other interns or other important articles related to our internship on our Facebook group.
Thanks to Mr. Ravi Kumar and Modlingua team, we learnt so much about translation and interpretation throughout this internship. I also got to know more about personal marketing, personal branding.
Mr. Kumar made an experienced real work environment. Although this was an internship still we got to know the difference between training environment and real environment. It is more about discipline and training as well.
I personally learnt about HOW TO TAKE HELP & HELP OTHERS. I am glad that being an intern now I am also a part of MODLINGUA, I am pleased to be able to complete the training under Mr. Ravi Kumar and I am looking forward to be part of more such opportunities.
