Having the skill of any language like French, Spanish, Japanese, etc plays a remarkable role in this globalized world. Although, English is used globally which showcases its culture and lifestyle at the universal level. However, being a Multilinguist helps in not only exploring the culture and lifestyle overseas but aids, in mushrooming a country’s economy. That is why nowadays, every 3 out of 4 people are opting their career in languages.
In this fascinating video, Mr. Ravi Kumar with two panelists, Mr. Vivek Kumar and Dr.Gopal Sharma, are sharing their experiences in the field of languages. The video talks about important aspects of an editor in a language.
The editor holds very important power in editing any writer's book or editing any report for journalists. So, the major key aspects in the field of editors are:
- The editors keep in mind that the original meaning should not be altered.
- The editors have to take care of the expectations of the writers and publishers.
As the talk goes on, gradually the video reveals interesting facts about the editor’s job. The editor tries to give a universality in the languages, because it’s very important to keep in mind the comfort of the audience, thereby, the editor tries to pick a particular style or a particular language or word in order to make the audience understand the book. The main role of an editor is to cater to the needs of all people. Therefore, the editor is a solicited help.
The editor is an integral part of society. This is explained in the video with a magnificent example; there was a talk going on at Pakistan’s news channel, where a journalist was asked that the income of apple is more than the total GDP of Pakistan’s, but she gave a surprising and funny answer to the individuals present there. The journalist thought that the apple is a fruit and she said: “yes apples are very costly these days”. Consequently, this example shows that the presence of editors is really very important as they have to even tell the reporters that Apple is not only a fruit but it’s also a company. So, editors are required in writing as well as in vocals too.
The session on a career in languages was ended with the enriching message that whether a translator or a writer or a person from any language background, should be aware of the power of linguists as well as with the power of editors. The writers should not irritate the editors because the writer gets 6 months or 1 year to complete a book, whereas the editors only get 5-6 days to edit the writer's work.
