Integration of project management in translation

Recently, we have seen gradual changes in the translation profession changing it from recent service to industry.  The translation industry is dictating to a new spectrum of skills translators have to have, if they are to act in a circumstance of larger translation volumes, earlier delivery times, stricter customization demands, and global production teams. Thus, the translator is required to develop the skills and knowledge of a project manager, an evaluator, a technical writer, a language engineer, a computer scientist, and so forth.

Thus, if these things are always kept ready, the translator can respond to any clients’ inquiries at any time.

There are many advantages of integrating project management with the translation industry but the main one is it helps in covering the risks and challenges plus grasping the project as a whole, by understanding the resources to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the project.

Project management in translation can be integrated with glossary management, quality control, and standards.

In the process of preparing a translation project integrated with project management, Mr. Ravi Kumar suggests that the translator has to; Define the scope, the timeline of execution, cost, start the work, ensure quality control, after accomplishing the translator is to look for colleagues to help crosscheck the work, practice effective communication with the client plus understanding the risks such as technical tags, terms to ensure quality translation and if the translator faces any difficulties he/she can procure experts.
