Source text-

Literary translation-

Strategy  –

ADAPTATION

Albir describes adaptation as a “technique whereby one cultural element is replaced by another which is typical of the receiving culture. This technique is very useful when translating advertisements, slogans, etc., which employ several different linguistic processes. In these cases, the most important thing is the actual meaning of the message rather than the words making it up.

ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE –

The greatest advantage is that the literature gains a much larger audience! Reading literature from a culture different from one’s own helps people develop a wider understanding of the world around them. This wider understanding can have innumerable positive effects. This also is an advantage of translating literature.

The most significant disadvantage is that there are seldom direct, one-to-one correlations between words, their meanings, and their subtle suggestions in different languages. There is an inevitable loss of intended meaning, nuance, and beauty. Because of this, one finds more than a single translation of many classic works, and readers often develop preferences for one translator over another.

Conclusion- The work of literary translation is the maximization of the literary, understood as the created excess of the signifier over the signified, so that the reader is more fully immersed in textual movement, in the existential experiment, in a proliferation of sense and the inter-sensory, in the urgent project of future so that it would help both the reader as well as writer.
