Guidelines for Summer Interns

By Modlingua Team

Some of the selected candidates have sought some information about the internship. We thought of sending the replies to all so that if any question arises in the future, you may refer to these.

  1. Is this internship related to translation tasks?
The straight answer is no. It is more to do with Translation Business, Teamwork and Project Management.
For the last 3 years, we have been organizing this Summer Internship for some specific purposes. The idea is to train translators in those areas which are hardly taught during classroom sessions, such as Marketing, Market Research, Social Media Marketing, E-mail Marketing, Project Management, Contract Management, How to make and retain clients etc. Also, we intend to develop the entrepreneurial skills of translators.
  1. a) We have clearly mentioned the intent of the internship at the Projects section of our website at http://www.modlingua.com/translation-projects/890-summer-internship-for-translators-interpreters-and-language-professionals.html
  1.  Are you going to pay us some remuneration?
This is a social project of Modlingua. We strongly believe that we must put in our efforts in improving the profile of translators and language professionals. This can be possible only when our community is empowered with certain additional skill sets.

This being a social venture, neither do we expect any intern to pay for the training, nor do we pay any honorarium or remuneration as we do not ask the interns to work for us. Interns work for themselves and develop their skills for a better future. We just remain a guiding force and trigger behind their success.
As the company policy, we do not expect you to work for free even for sample translations. During the course of training and internship, if we engage any intern for our work, we pay them their professional fees. However, we do not guarantee any paid work during or after the internship, as the projects in hand are lesser than the manpower available.
  1. What are we supposed to do?
You are supposed to attend online lectures and online consultation sessions which will cover the above-mentioned aspects. Based on the lectures, you will be given certain assignments that you will have to submit through our online platform. Articles that meet our requirements will be selected and will be published on the Modlingua website to showcase your activities. Thus, this will be an opportunity for your own branding. Modlingua will provide you training, orientation and mentorship for your success that will collectively add value to the profile of our profession.

It is expected that each intern will devote at least ten hours on a weekly basis apart from the scheduled lectures whose timings will be intimated well in advance.
You may also like to visit the Internship section on our website and browse through more than 100 reports submitted by our summer interns of 2017.
  1. Is it ok to contact you (24 hrs) on WhatsApp?
If there is an emergency, Yes. We also suggest you, "think and work like a boss". You as a boss, will not prefer to be disturbed for reasons related to petty things. You get in touch with your boss or a senior member of the management when you have exhausted all your means. In your case, you must use the following 3 options first before you bring any problem to the Senior Management.

Depending upon the schedule, there may be a break of one week in between for evaluation and other administrative purposes.
