Garima Dhingra
I am a language expert based in New Delhi. I have all the usual interests of today's generation. I love books, food, movies, TV shows, travelling, photography, poetry, sketching and talking about all of this on social media. With a keen interest in Art, Culture, Cinema, History and Positive Psychology, I am inclined towards all sorts of creative pursuits and am always eager to learn new skills.
As an introvert child, some of my happiest moments were spent buying and reading novels. Having acquired a passion for languages at an early age, I picked English Literature for graduation, which gave me tremendous exposure to the life and works of some of the best thinkers and artists in history. I have always maintained that it was the best decision of my life. The course bombarded me with an immense range of new ideas from every corner of the world, radically transforming my perception and outlook. The ways in which it changed my personality was phenomenal. I went from being an academically excellent but meek girl to an outspoken, aware and confident woman who had mastered two of the most important skills of our times- the ability to question everything and the art of unlearning and relearning.
Over the course of the next few years, I achieved the Superior Level C1 in French amidst the multicultural environment of Alliance Française De Delhi, followed by an Advanced Diploma in French from St. Stephen’s College.
Professionally, I have tutored students, taught French at a school, done an intense 3-month editorial internship with a Media house and worked on various translation and content writing projects as a freelancer. I have enjoyed being part of each of these roles.
Career Goals
My interests and knowledge include but are not limited to the linguistic field. I constantly seek to diversify my talents and explore new roles and potential leadership opportunities while embracing larger challenges. I aim to link my multilingual expertise with other sectors like Media, Tourism, International Relations, etc. While working at an international organisation would be a promising prospect, I also have a keen desire to work with NGOs and on environmental conservation projects.
We often hear people stressing the importance of having clearly defined career goals and paths in life. I have, what I like to call, an interesting mix of qualifications, interests and hobbies, coupled with an insane curiosity, dedication to self-improvement and a positive approach towards living a good life. Time is too short to do just one thing, stay in one place or work just one job. Also, I firmly believe that purpose is more important than goals. I am on the way to find mine and to discover more and more on the journey. I am inspired by Christopher Morley’s mantra: “There is only one real success, and that is to be able to live life on your terms, your own way.’’
I welcome the opportunity to learn about Translation business and allied skills with Modlingua’s Summer Internship program and am thrilled in anticipation of all the new things these next 2 months would bring up.
