Vikash Kumar
Hello everyone, myself Vikash Kumar and I am currently pursuing my graduation in Korean Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University. I have completed my high school from Patna, Bihar. From the very beginning, I was keen to learn a foreign language but never thought that I will get the opportunity to learn Korean language in JNU. The reason for learning a new language comes from a desire to communicate and connect with other people around the world and to understand them and their way of life. Coming to JNU for pursuing my graduation, I have learned many beautiful things about Korea. In the very first year of graduation, they teach us about the history of Korea. And while doing a comparative study in the prospect of India, I found that there is a very close connection between our culture and Korean culture. As a foreign language learner, I believe that learning a foreign language is never easy but someone with a strong determination and keen interest can learn that. Being a foreign language learner I got the opportunity to learn many new things other than language. Meeting new people, learning their way of living and most importantly their culture is something which I think as the most important part of learning a new language.
From very childhood the environment in which I grew taught me many things. To stay strong in the hard situation and to keep control of our emotions in daily lives are the things which shaped me. I always believe that one can get whatever he desires. For that, the only thing which is required is self-belief. For me the thing which matter is my passion and dedication towards my work and nothing else. We cannot predict the result of our effort, the only thing which we can do is hard work. I think the result should never be counted as the parameter of success. I think the process is more important because it teaches us many lessons to work even stronger to fulfil our desire.
Recently I started working for Korean Tourism organisation where I have to make creative posters and doodles for the promotion of Korean culture, tourism, food, tradition etc. I think after started working on this project I connected emotionally with the Korean language. These kinds of connection help us to determine our purpose of learning a foreign language.
Talking about my hobbies, I always prefer outdoor activities like sports and cycling. From very childhood, I love to play cricket and badminton. Recently I developed a new interest in swimming. All these things are important for our physical and mental strength.
In the end, I would like to conclude that in the age of 21 I have not achieved anything outstanding but I always believe that my hunger to learn more and new things will help me to bring more values to my personality.
Career Goals
The main objective in modern foreign language study today should be to become intelligent about language. People start learning a language because they want it to get them somewhere in terms of employment (the motivator to start in the first place). They learn a language for another reason such as personal interest in the language (perhaps even become fluent in it) and then at some point down the track decide that it’s a good idea to use what they’ve already learned for a career or to further their existing career.
I personally have never learned a language solely because I needed it for a job perspective. From the very beginning, I want to make my career in academics. I always get filled with joy when my classmate or juniors come to me and ask help related to Korean Studies. I feel enthusiastic and always pretend to be like my teachers and follow their teaching style.
A degree in Korean Studies will help me realize my career goals. It will help me in getting that cutting edge which is required to adopt a complex situation. The language learning will help me enhance my skills and bring more versatility to my personality.
By being an intern at Modlingua I can learn the basics of translation and interpretation and gain experience in this field which will help me in getting my career goals.
