Brief Profile
I completed my M.Phil in Linguistics from Jadavpur University. I am currently working as a research intern at Indian Statistical Institute. I am a polyglot. My listening, speaking, reading, and written skills are in Bangla, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, German, and French in decreasing proficiency. I can manage to understand and follow a little in Marathi, Assamese, and Oriya. I am interested in learning Spanish and a few more languages to become a hyperpolyglot eventually.
My passion for languages has brought me here today at the summer internship at Modlingua. I am looking forward to learning new skills and also brushing up on my experience as a linguist. I am here to build up my expertise and gain insight to be socially responsible and efficient in the translation industry through this exposure.
Career Goals
I grew up in a multilingual and multicultural environment that facilitated my interests in different languages and cultures since childhood. It also helped me make friends across different cultures and languages. I am also interested in becoming a hyperpolyglot someday.
It wasn't until my final year of my Bachelor's I had found my way to exemplify my passion for languages into reality. I was in a dilemma. I was greatly concerned about exemplifying my interests from a side interest to bring it up on the main track. I came across the book 'Pygmalion' written by George Bernard Shaw. That book became a turning point in my life. I knew what I was aiming for; I loved reading it, and it was my avenue that helped me leap into the field of Linguistics.
I learned a lot about different languages in depth and width in their use and structure in my Master's in Linguistics. I am chiefly interested in exploring the varied domains and disciplines of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches related to Linguistics.
The different aspects of language(s) light up my curiosity. This interest helped me to work on diverse projects. Some of these projects are related to transcription, conversation analysis, textual analysis, data annotation, and language documentation. My M.Phil primarily focused on the morphological analysis of a comparative study between two languages. It helped me to learn and grow as a researcher. I also like to teach. I teach elementary courses in Linguistics, Phonetics, and ELT (English Language Teaching) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I also have experience in teaching Communicative English at undergraduate levels. My students come from various backgrounds. It is often interesting to find hidden gems of wisdom in different batches from different institutes. My classes are a mix of direct instruction and interactive methods. They always provide me with fresh perspectives and help me gain insight. I wish to pursue a Ph.D. to gain the requisite knowledge and the different skill sets to be successful as a researcher and professor as my long-term goals.
I also wish to make a difference by my contribution in both professional and personal space. I believe in welfare practices and try my little bit with teaching and social work. My other interests include being active in different cultural pursuits, including writing poetry and traveling.
