Brief Profile:

Hi! I'm Somya kori. If my younger self were looking at me right now, she would be confused because never in my wildest dreams I thought that I would be learning the Chinese language. When I was in higher secondary, my core subjects were physics, chemistry, and mathematics. And now, instead of engineering, I have completed my Ba (Hons) in Chinese studies from Doon University. And currently, I'm pursuing my master's in Chinese studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University. My life has taken a different turn, but I'm happy.

When I was in my 1st year, one of our teachers wrote (你好! )on the whiteboard. She told us, this is our homework, and we need to practice this, she will ask us to write down this character tomorrow. And I remember vividly. That day, I went back home and started practicing the characters. And the next day, I was the first person to write that character, and I was on cloud nine. Slowly I learned more and more characters. During my second year, I was doing well in class, and I have already studied China's history, basic Chinese grammar, and few Chinese poems. And now, I have started watching Chinese movies, tv-series, and reality shows through which I had a better understanding of China. And in the 3rd year, we started learning about newspaper translation. And now I have learned about India-China relations, Chinese culture, history, literature, Chinese character, Chinese grammar, newspaper translation.

Every year at Doon University, we celebrated the Chinese new year, And I used to participate with enthusiasm. I have participated in poem recitation, quiz competitions, and speech competitions. And there were also extra-curriculum activities, where I participated in singing, dancing, and drama activities. We had one mainland Chinese teacher and one Taiwanese teacher. They have taught us so much about Chinese culture and tradition. One day at Doon University, we organized a Chinese food activity, where I learn about Chinese food, its cooking process, and the history behind some foods.

Career Goals

When I was studying Chinese apart from engineering, many people asked me what I want to be. Then I used to say a translator or an interpreter. But now, when I think about it, I feel like I should explore more. And when I completed mine under graduation, I applied for JNU because I wanted to explore how the Chinese language plays a role in the world market apart from interpretation and translation. And in the future, I'm planning to study in China, where I can gain more knowledge about different aspects of the Chinese language. I can explore how China is doing so well and how India can learn from China.

I'm also into traveling, and in the future, if I get a chance to make a vlog, I'll pursue that. Likewise, I'm also thinking about making a vlog channel of my own, where I can post about India and China and how there are a few similarities or differences between China and India. And in my vlog channel, I can show china's food and language and travel vlogs.

I'm looking forward to the internship at MODLINGUA. So I can learn more.
