Call for applications: Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Department of Translation at the Chinese University of Hong Kong is now hiring a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow, initially tenurable for 12 months, with the possibility of further extension for an additional 12 months. As the first Department of Translation in Hong Kong, our programme has a long history of excellence in a variety of fields, including but not limited to translation history, translation and technology, translation theory, and practical translation (especially literary). The Department is also home to the Centre for Translation Technology, which has specialized projects undertaken by Centre members. . Faculty members are active in securing research grants and currently GRF projects on translation history and translation theory, as well as other specialized projects, are conducted. Individuals with expertise in the relevant disciplines are encouraged to consult details on our website relating to ongoing projects and expertise of staff members before applying. Applicants should have (i) a relevant PhD degree; (ii) strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching; and (iii) outstanding accomplishments and research potential.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for 12 months commencing from August 2016. Review of applications begins immediately and the position is open until filled.

Call for participants: Translation Studies Summer School / Université d’été en traductologie

The second Translation Studies Summer School organised by SoFT will be held at the Castello dei Conti Guidi in the historical village of Poppi in Tuscany (Italy) from July 24th to July 30th 2016. This intensive course is designed to reflect on the history, the theories, the methodologies and the issues in literary and pragmatic translation. It is a crash course in the still burgeoning field of studies in translation for students, translators and researchers, which consists of lectures followed by practical workshops. Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance at the end of the course. A variety of cultural activities are included in the programme. Participants will find a whole range of options on site for accommodation and meals at reasonable prices. (Refer to the registration and accommodation forms.)

Intended audience: students studying for a doctorate, a master’s degree or a degree in translation studies; professional translators; researchers in the field of translation studies.
Registration fees (including morning and afternoon sessions, and cultural events): 350 euros. Languages: mastery of French and English is essential in order to follow the programme. The presentations will be in French (with a summary in English) or in English.

Documents: a general document related to the sessions will be sent to the participants in May 2016. It will include:
--For the morning session: an introduction to the lecturer, a general description of the presentation, a list of the objectives to be reached and a short bibliography,
--For the afternoon session: a description of the workshop, a list (if required) of the texts that will be studied and any other essential document for the analysis of these texts.
