When someone wants to gather information about a topic, their first instinct is to open a search engine and start searching, and a majority of people use Google. That is why search and top ranking in Google search matter. When searching on a topic, most people go only through the contents of the first page of results. In rare cases does one jump to the second page, usually only when the needed information is unavailable on the first. Commonly cited research suggests that most people never look beyond the first page at all, so the links on the first page have a great advantage: they are better recognized, attract more clicks, and have better earning prospects.
Translators and multilingual writers need online marketing so that their presence can be felt. They need to promote their online translation services by posting advertisements and making sure their website ranks among the top results on the first page. This visibility can be built with the AIDA technique (Awareness, Interest, Desire and Action). Blogging is another tool for popularizing a website so that it attracts more clients, and the website itself must look attractive rather than boring. This popularity must then be maintained to achieve the best results over a long period.
Google Translate, used by many translators and students, is a helpful tool, but it is not always fully accurate, so professional translators continue to offer real value.
German-English and English-German are the language pairs I work in. These pairs are not as crowded as Spanish-English or French-English, and that can be an advantage: since fewer people work in this pair, it is easier to reach the top of the search results, which can prove beneficial in the long run.
