Valentina Macías IsazaLanguages are a major tool for human interaction; they provide us with knowledge by accumulation and historical content as well as the common grounds for debating and mediation so as to construct our cultural environments, traditions, norms, and regulations at a collective level, and as individuals, languages allow us to define ourselves through the understanding of our identities and the shaping of our personalities; they are living entities connecting our interior selves with our exterior world, both as creators and destroyers. In the field of linguistics, the role of translators and language professionals is essential for moderating communication among various thongs. Hence, the renowned definition that conceptualizes translators as the engineers of interpretation who build bridges amidst the barriers of interlingual communication.
When talking about translation and language professionals, one crucial aspect must be encouraged to provide the best and most appropriate results: collaboration. Thus, any professional should always take up another viewpoint, in our field especially, because “four eyes can see better than two,” and as we work on one subject or manuscript our mind gets vicious and can correct some of the mistakes internally without realizing they need changing in the paper. Several analogies can be found in the field of sports racing, i.e. the way skaters and cyclists take turns to lead all competitors while racing even though all know that only one will come in first place. In nature, one can see these same phenomena among insects: ants or bees, but there is a marvelous example when looking at wolf packs: these animals are known for their teamwork and smart differentiation of their roles: their leaders scatter along the line to keep the right pace and take good care of their elderly and Cubs. Translators, in turn, work their best when they take up assignments in groups with a project manager who keeps all channels of communication open among participants and a clear balance when taking turns to carry on with the assignment, let be as terminologist, translator, proofreader, and editor. Most versatile teams are those who are always changing their roles and practice trust and good communication along their way.
