Technology is an important part of our lives today and hardly someone can imagine living without it. It is said, “If it isn't on Google, it doesn't exist.” This explains us the prevalence of the most common search engine – google. Each and every person all over the world including students, adults, professionals use google whenever they want to know something.

People who look for information on google mostly see only the first 10 results. Hence, as translators it is important for us to be in the top results of google search. Keywords also play a major role in google search. For example, if somebody wants to hire a German-English translator, the person would definitely search on the internet. He would contact the few people who are on top of the search results. In order to be successful in today’s world of technology, it is necessary to consider google as an important aspect for our work. According to the latest statistics, 89% of internet users in United States search online before they take up or deal with anything, whether it is a small or big affair. 75% of the users never see the search results beyond the first page.

As translators, if we want people to notice us and contact us for work and assignments we need to come into their vision through top ranking in search results. For that, our website should have more than 400 pages, a captivating name and log along with good page descriptions. We will be greatly benefited if we think and work upon these aspects of google search. Google is available in almost all international as well as many Indian languages. We, as multilingual people, can approach companies for publishing their articles and also their websites in other languages for increasing its access to a wider range of population.

The language pair I work in is German-English. Germany is one of the leading nations in the world in terms of technology. It has tie-ups with many countries all over the world, including India. The Germans respect their own language and do not motivate English language so much. They believe in their own culture. So for the translators of this language pair, internet and online marketing is very essential for global business. The world is growing and so, we too must grow and work, keeping in mind the need of the hour.
