"We translators should learn the basics of networking and team work from ants".
I completely agree with this statement. It talks about two things: 1. Translators 2. Ants. Translators are multilingual people, who know two or more languages at professional levels and can convert a text from the source language into the target language. In order to attain success, translators must have language skills, computer skills, a good sense of networking and team work. Translators do the job of keeping the world connected through languages. They bridge the communication barriers between nations across the world. On the other hand, an ant is a very small insect which has a sting and lives in a complex social colony. We can find ants everywhere. They exist in every part of the earth including forests, cities and deserts. They live in colonies and work together with coordination, harmony, unity, team work, patience and support. These are some qualities that human beings must also have for a successful life. They have also strong communication skills. Members of an ant colony converse with one another not through voices, but with the help of chemicals which they smell. Since years, Ant colonies are an example of obedience and wisdom. We can learn a lot from ants : their behavior, their attitude, their way and a lot more.
In today’s world where globalisation plays an important role, translators are the people who solve all kinds of problems by overcoming the barriers of communication. Translators link various countries of the world and only due to the existence of translators, globalisation could take place. Without translators, it would have unachievable.
Translators must learn qualities of networking and team work in order to get better in their fields. Networking with different people and firms across the world will definitely help us in improving our own work and standards. Being a part of Modlingua, I am getting an opportunity to be in touch with a huge number of language professionals and experts. I can eventually develop and improve my own capabilities and talent. I get inspired from people associated with Modlingua, who are so good at networking as well as work efficiently like a team.
The network of translators will continuously keep advancing, improving and help them achieve a lot professionally. Translators help the world in a way nobody else can. Conquering all cultural, historical barriers, translators are the ones who keep the world united. It is truly said by Anthony Burgess:“Translation is not a matter of words only: it is a matter of making intelligible a whole culture.”
