Utkarsh Prakash
Hello everyone, My name is Utkarsh Prakash. I am from Kanpur and currently staying in Delhi with my elder brother. I completed my education till graduation( B.Sc) from Kanpur itself.
As long as I can remember language study has always been a part of my life. There has always been a question “What if?” in my mind. What if there was no way to communicate? What if there was just one language that everybody speaks? Linguist is defined as the systematic study of materials and sources to establish communication bond and reach new conclusions.
Why is language so important to me? Well, it is opening a new road through knowledge. I believe that language is one of the keys to opening the door of medicine itself. It takes your heart and soul to become a good writer. And it takes your understanding ability and immense patience to become a good translator or interpreter.
I started my career as a translator for an NGO( Gyan Bharti) and gradually I realized that I loved to work as a freelancer. This is because when you work as a freelancer you have the opportunity to learn new things and you are not bound in certain specific areas. But since it's rightly said that Liberty comes with vigilance, so need to be careful with every step that you take.
I have worked with few of the well-known clients so far such as Amway, Crystal translations, Amazon, HBO, Netflix( third party), Xicom etc.
My strength is my dedication and honesty and my weakness is that I somewhere lack in the skills of marketing and project management.
Well if I talk about my hobbies it will be playing badminton, swimming and listening to some good music when I am alone.
To conclude I would say I am happy with what I am doing but will be more satisfied if I can bring some more value to it.
Career goals
I constantly keep on improving my skills whether it's language or communication with my clients. I am fond of travelling, so I have kept a short-term goal for myself to learn few of the regional languages and then go for the foreign languages.
Language localization is different from mere translation since it involves a comprehensive study of the target audience in order to correctly adapt the product to local needs. The localization process is most generally related to the cultural adaptation and translation of software, video games and websites, as well as audio, video or other multimedia content, and less frequently to any written translation.
Almost all the major economies in the world have set their quality standards and all professional translators have to follow them, otherwise, their works are rejected. This also helps them to increase and improvise their language skills and so that their work can be later read by the people across the world. In India, we lack such kind of awareness and training. So many language experts with significant potential are not able to excel. They don’t get enough recognition from the world community. A little more of professional training is required to pace up with the global market. Translators and interpreters also have to be given such kind of training.
I got myself enrolled with modlingua internship program after listening to the vision of Mr Ravi Kumar who rightly said that the translators in India are not less talented but they just lack in organizing their skills to obtain maximum benefit out of them.
Under this program, I am looking forward to learning the basics of translation since I am not a trained translator and also would know how can I create a better market for selling my services. We can get the best price for our services only when we can ensure that it has adhered the quality standards, the management guidelines and the sales criteria.
I am also looking forward to working with modlingua in future as a translator and interpreter.
