Profile
Hello! My name is João Gabriel Silveira and I am from Pernambuco, a state located in the Northeast of Brazil. I completed the high school in 2015 and joined at Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) in 2018, after taking the National High School Exam (ENEM) for two years in a row. I’m a student of BA degree in Languages at UFPE, an institution that has welcomed me since the beginning and showed me the great number of existing areas of human knowledge, being one of then, of course, Linguistics.
Language issues have always made me uneasy. Even before I entered at UFPE, I had already fed myself the habit of thinking about the purposes of use, the differences and the various other issues that encompass the grand and complex universe of human language. This, in a way, increased even more, when I started studying the English language and when I recently joined the field of Translation Studies, a field that was presented to me by Professor Arlene Koglin, Ph.D. (UFPE). Since then, concerns have increased more and more, once this field involves not only language issues, but also cultural, technological, inclusion, and human accessibility issues. I believe that translation necessarily implies treading within these paths. It is precisely because I have this incessant desire to explore the field of Translation, to know new cultures, to acquire more learning, and to build new bonds during the process, that I believe Modlingua is the right place to live such an experience. In addition to seeing a promising enterprise with the team, I also believe that I will contribute, with my commitment, persistence, and thirst for learning, to the growth of all those involved in the process.
Career Goals
For many years, my professional goals have as main focus the issue of accessibility, whether by translation, education or any other way. The Translation Studies, specifically the Audiovisual Translation's field, covers all my tastes and interests, involving language, culture, technology, inclusion and accessibility, factors that together benefit the human being in an unimaginable way and that, in a way, they impelled me to choose this field to live and resignify, through language and other factors mentioned above, the lives of people. Therefore, in the short term, my greatest interest at the moment is to acquire the maximum possible learning (theoretical and practical) in the area, consolidate good academic-scientific training, and, at the same time, acquire experiences in the market. And it is precisely because of these desires that I wish to join Modlingua, because, in addition to evolving individually in the field of which I am interested, I will be contributing directly to the growth of the company and I will also be, thus, promoting access to information through translation. In the long run, I wish to become an excellent translator and researcher in the field of Translation Studies. This obviously requires a lot of studies and theoretical and practical support, but focus, commitment and will not fail me so that I can achieve my goals. Therefore, I believe that Modlingua, with all its well-known team and services of excellent quality, can assist me in this endeavor, as well as all the people who will be involved in the process: from production to the receivers of information that, in turn, it is the greatest source of knowledge that a human being can possess.
